Weekly Blog 17

This morning, I read an article and watched a video of President Obama declaring his support for gay marriage throughout the country, even though many people of his party were against it, Obama was also previously opposed to it. One of the reasons he says that he changed his mind was because of all of the homosexual military personal, who are fighting for the entire country's benefit, and his staff members feeling constricted, even though "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" is gone.

I think that this is a huge step for the U.S., and a good one. I believe that same-sex marriage should be legal because if two people love each other and want to get married, they should be allowed to. Their getting married has no effect on anyone else's lives, especially those who have never or will never be in any sort of contact with the couples. People in this country say they want equality for everyone, yet are outright opposed to issues like this for no real reason, other than their religion saying it's wrong or learning that it's wrong from their parents.

  1. I agree with ya here Alek. Same-sex marriage should be legal. It doesn't affect others so why do they make a big deal about it. The marriage wouldn't harm anyone else? So therefore i'm agreeing with President Obama as well. However, I don't think that this will help him when elections come around.

  2. It would be nice if everyone in the world, even gays, could get married. While I agree with Obama i wonder how much he can actually do. Sure he can put pressure on congress but he has no lawmaking powers himself.

  3. I agree with you Alek. If a church wants to bless and give a same-sex marriage then it should be allowed. It is not our job to judge people and who they truly love. I still don't think it will help Obama get votes because his last campaign he said he was for man and woman marriage meaning that he is a hypocrite or a liar meaning he can't be trusted.

  4. Alek I agree with you, and there is no reason that same-sex marriage should be illegal or banned it is not a decision for the church to make, and in order for american to represent her people fairly and equally I believe that same sex-marriage should be allowed. I hope that president Obama is truly committed to what he claims and is not just using this as a means to increase votes in this election year. Hopefully as a Nation we can begin to move forward in our tolerance of human beings and their rights as it appears we are begging to do.
